SUMMER SESSION I

3 Week Intensive: Build and Blow
May 17 – June 5
This course is open to Non-Tyler BFA students by permission of the instructor: email dcutrone@temple.edu

3 credits
This course is designed for the beginner as well as the advanced student. The students will learn about glass studio equipment design and construction along with exploring hot glass working techniques. For the beginner it will give an introduction to the processes and techniques of hot glass. For the advanced student it will allow the time to investigate and develop their creative ideas alongside the instructor. The student will be encouraged to explore and push their understanding of glass in both traditional and non-traditional ways. The objective of this course is to give the student the necessary tools and insight into glass making, which will enable the student to use glass as an expressive medium.

3 Week Intensive: Light and Space
June 7 – 25

3 credits
This course is designed for the beginner as well as the advanced student. Students will be working on a public light installation for Fashion Week Philadelphia. We will develop a concept, design, and produce one or more large scale light works for this public event that will draw thousands of people to Philadelphia. Students will be encouraged to explore and push their understanding of glass in both traditional and non-traditional ways as we work together as a group to realize this large scale public project.

SUMMER SESSION II

3 Week Intensive: Casting
July 6 – July 26

3 credits
This course is designed for people who are interested in experimenting with glass casting. We will explore hot casting using sand casting and graphite molds, as well as methods of working warm and cold glass including slumping, fusing, and kiln casting. No previous experience working with glass is necessary – all levels are welcome! This course is especially well-suited for middle and high school art teachers.
